Chitchat has a new look
We’ve given text chat on Chitchat a full visual overhaul. The whole app has been redesigned, with plenty of changes under the hood too.
The result should feel faster, smoother, and more reliable, whether you’re chatting on your phone or computer.
Rolling out now. The new look is being released in waves, so some people may see it before others. If you don’t have it yet, you’ll get it soon — there’s nothing you need to do.
A faster, smoother Chitchat
Alongside the new look, we’ve spent a lot of time improving how Chitchat feels to use day to day.
Pages should load faster, navigating around the app should feel smoother, and we’ve cleaned up plenty of bugs and smaller issues along the way.
What you’ll notice
- Faster. Pages load quicker and the app reacts faster when you tap or click.
- Smoother. Scrolling, switching screens and chatting should all feel more fluid, especially on phones.
- Fewer bugs. We fixed a long list of small problems along the way, so things should just work more often.
Your account, friends, chat history, and settings are all still there — they just have a new home.
Pick your theme
You can make Chitchat look the way you want. Go to Settings → Appearance:
- Theme: choose Light, Dark, or System to match your device.
- Colors: in dark mode, choose Charcoal, Dark, or Legacy. Legacy brings back the blue-grey colors from before the redesign.
Install Chitchat for the smoothest experience
For the best experience, you can install Chitchat straight from your browser, without an app store. It opens in its own window, launches from your home screen or taskbar, and feels more like a native app.
- On your phone: open Settings and tap Install Chitchat.
- On a computer: go to Settings → Preferences and select Install Chitchat.
Chitchat will show you the steps for your browser. On iPhone and iPad, use Safari: tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
