My camera or microphone isn't working

Video chat needs permission to use your camera and microphone. If you see Camera permission denied or your match can't see or hear you, it's almost always a permission setting.

Allow camera and microphone access

Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers

1. Click the icon to the left of the address bar.
2. Set Camera and Microphone to Allow.
3. Reload the page.

Safari on Mac

1. Open Safari → Settings → Websites.
2. Choose Camera, then set Chitchat to Allow. Do the same under Microphone.
3. Reload the page.

Firefox

1. Click the camera or lock icon in the address bar.
2. Remove the blocked permissions for camera and microphone.
3. Reload the page and choose Allow when asked.

iPhone or iPad

Open Settings → Safari → Camera and Microphone, and set them to Ask or Allow. Then reload Chitchat.

Android

In Chrome, tap the icon to the left of the address bar, then Permissions, and allow camera and microphone. Then reload Chitchat.

Still not working?

• Check your device settings. On a Mac, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and allow your browser under Camera and Microphone. On Windows, open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and turn on camera access for desktop apps.
• Close other apps using your camera. Video call apps and other browser tabs can hold on to it.
• Check the page is waiting on you. If you see Waiting for camera permission, look for a permission pop-up near the address bar.
• Try another browser. If it works there, the problem is a setting or extension in your usual browser.
