Why can't I use a feature?

If Chitchat says a feature is unavailable, your account most likely has a feature limit. A feature limit switches off specific features for a set amount of time after a violation of our Community Guidelines. Everything else keeps working.

Features that can be limited

  • Matching with new people
  • Changing your profile picture
  • Changing your username
  • Adding interests
  • Showing your interests to others, including friends
  • Sending friend requests
  • Reporting users

See exactly what's limited and until when

Go to Settings → Standing. Each limit shows which rule it was for, which features are off, and the date it ends. When that date passes, the features come back on their own.

If your username was reset

Your username and interests are visible to other people, so they need to follow our Community Guidelines too. We may reset your username, and clear your interests or make them private, if they:

  • Are sexual or suggestive, including innuendo and double meanings
  • Are offensive, hateful or harassing
  • Promote something, or send people to another site, app or profile
  • Break our Community Guidelines in any other way

After a reset you can usually keep chatting, but you won't be able to change your username or share your interests until the limit ends. Your Standing page shows the date.

If Chitchat asks you to link an account

Sometimes chatting is paused until you link a sign-in account, such as Google or Apple. That is different from a normal limit. Linking an account unlocks chatting right away. See How do I verify my account? for the steps.

Still stuck?

If your Standing page says All good but a feature still isn't working, it's probably a technical issue rather than a limit. Try Basic Troubleshooting, then contact support if it keeps happening.
